Pre-Natal massage is a modality used by Massage Therapists to address the changes that occur throughout the body during pregnancy. As your baby develops, your center of gravity shifts, and your posture will change accordingly. Our Therapists have a specific protocol to address the bodies changes during all trimesters and promote relaxation and relief from pain.

First time receiving a Prenatal Massage? What should you expect...
North Orange County Chiropractic and Wellness Center has your comfort in mind. All therapists are State Certified and have specialized training in Pre-Natal Massage. Your massage therapist will massage either the full body (except private areas) or specific areas that need attention, such as especially tight muscles. You can dress down to your comfortability. You will be laying on your side, underneath a sheet and blanket in a private treatment room. Depending on your trimester, your therapist may have you lay on your back to give additional attention to the neck or feet.  You will dictate the pressure and areas worked on. Remember to breathe normally and communicate with your Massage Therapist throughout your session.

How often should you be recieving treatment?
We suggest for most patients to receive treatment once a month for maintenance however, pain is a personal experience. Every person has a different level of tolerance for pain and because of this there is no definite schedule for every individual to follow. You may need more therapy to accommodate your lifestyle or trimester.

What can you expect post treatment?
Typically, patients report feeling sleepy, relaxed and calm. Depending on the modalities used you may feel sore, don’t worry this is normal. When the tissues in the body are worked and tension is released blood and nutrients are carried to the muscles while eliminating toxins. When muscles that are not typically used or overused are released you may experience delayed onset of muscle soreness. Your body may have some inflammation as your body heals, especially if you are experiencing lactic acidosis, which is the buildup of lactic acid in your body. Bruising, tenderness, and swelling may also occur depending on your body and the modalities used during your session.
